There are two ways in which you can view Spotlight in iOS 9. The first one is the normal method available on older versions where you can simply swipe down the Home screen to view Spotlight. The second one involves swiping the Home screen to the right when you’re on the first Home screen. If you’re not fond of Spotlight then you must consider checking out SpotlightBeGone, a new iOS 9 jailbreak tweak.
As the name implies, the tweak allows users to get rid of either one of the Spotlight views or both of them. You can disable the swipe down gesture or the swipe right gesture which invokes Spotlight when on the first page of the Home screen.
To get started after installing the tweak, venture into Settings and you’ll find a dedicated preferences pane. It features two toggles that allow you to disable the swipe down gesture or the other method that invokes Spotlight when you’re on the first page of Home screen and swipe to the right. You can also switch on both the toggles in order to completely disable Spotlight.
Once you’re done with the changes, all you have to do is to perform a respring or a reboot for the new changes to take place.
Spotlight can come in handy in many cases especially when you want to quickly search an app and launch it without locating it on the Home screen. In iOS 9, Spotlight has become much more useful with universal search where you can search for content within third-party apps rather being limited to the web and stock apps.
Yet if you’re not a fan on Spotlight and would like to disable it in iOS 9 then this tweak is a solid choice for you. SpotlightBeGone is available as a free package on Cydia’s BigBoss repo and supports iOS 9 devices.
