Dr. Dre’s ‘Compton: A Soundtrack’ launches August 7 exclusively for iTunes and Apple Music

Dr. Dre's Compton soundtrack
For fans of Dr. Dre, waiting for a new album has become something of a normal routine over the last several years. But that wait is finally coming to an end.
Over the weekend, during the Doctor’s Beats 1 radio show “The Pharmacy,” the prodigal artist officially announced that he has a new album landing on August 7, and that it will be an exclusive launch on iTunes and Apple Music. It’s entitled “Compton: A Soundtrack,” and Dr. Dre made the announcement alongside Ice Cube and the director of the upcoming film, Straight Outta Compton, F. Gary Gray. As the title of the album suggests, this is technically a soundtrack to the upcoming film, but this marks the first album release from Dr. Dre in over 15 years.
As noted by Pitchfork, the album will have 16 tracks on it, which has a wide range of different artists being featured on it, including Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Xzibit, Ice Cube, and others. Here’s the track list:
  • 1. Intro
  • 2. Talk About It [ft. King Mez & Justus]
  • 3. Genocide [ft. Kendrick Lamar, Marsha Ambrosius & Candice Pillay]
  • 4. It’s All on Me [ft. Justus & BJ the Chicago Kid]
  • 5. All in a Day’s Work [ft. Anderson Paak & Marsha Ambrosius]
  • 6. Darkside/Gone [ft. King Mez, Marsha Ambrosius & Kendrick Lamar]
  • 7. Loose Cannons [ft. Xzibit & COLD 187um]
  • 8. Issues [ft. Ice Cube & Anderson Paak]
  • 9. Deep Water [ft. Kendrick Lamar & Justus]
  • 10. One Shot One Kill [ft. Snoop Dogg]
  • 11. Just Another Day [ft. Asia Bryant]
  • 12. For the Love of Money [ft. Jill Scott & Jon Connor]
  • 13. Satisfaction [ft. Snoop Dogg, Marsha Ambrosius & King Mez]
  • 14. Animals [ft. Anderson Paak]
  • 15. Medicine Mane [ft. Eminem, Candice Pillay & Anderson Paak]
  • 16. Talking to My Diary
The announcement that the upcoming album would be an Apple launch exclusive, doesn’t come as that big of a surprise, considering Dr. Dre’s ties to the company following the acquisition of Beats Electronics. This is just one more big release for Apple Music/iTunes and Dr. Dre, as in late June it was also revealed that Dre’s “The Chronic” would be made available digitally for the first time through Apple’s services.
