Leaked design renders of the iPhone 6s have leaked out ahead of Apple’s official unveiling this fall, and they confirm the Cupertino company’s next-generation devices will be slightly thicker than the existing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Obtained by the reliable @OnLeaks, these images are supposed CAD design drawings that Apple sends out to select accessory makers to enable them to produce cases, docks, and more before the new iPhones make their debuts.
Information accompanying the images confirms the iPhone 6s will measure 7.1mm thick — 0.2mm more than the iPhone 6 — to accommodate the thicker, Force Touch display. It’s thought the new model is also more robust to prevent another “bendgate” debacle.
“The iPhone 6S Plus, which was the model most often cited in the so-called ‘bendgate’ scandal, has also been body-building. It’s gone from 7.1mm thick to 7.3mm, we were told,” reports uSwitch.
One interesting difference between the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus is that the protruding camera appears to have disappeared on the smaller model. This suggests that with a slightly thicker form factor and improved camera, Apple has been able to made the camera sit flush with the body on this model. However, the 6s Plus’s could be thicker due to its optical image stabilization. We can’t confirm these CAD drawings are genuine, and unfortunately, with something like this, it could well be a convincing fake. But @OnLeaks has been very reliable in the past — and plenty of other reports have claimed Apple’s next iPhones will be slightly thicker.
