Force Touch Activator brings iPhone 6s’ 3D Touch-like feature to iOS 8 and older devices

iPhone 6s 3D Touch
3D Touch was one of the major new features of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which is capable of providing quick shortcuts and actions based on the amount of pressure you exert on the device’s screen.
This feature is obviously limited to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus only as they are embedded with capacitive sensors built into the backlit of the Retina HD display that calculate the distance between the cover glass and the backlit which makes this feature possible.
Now a new jailbreak tweak called Force Touch Activator has been released in Cydia that brings the 3D Touch-like feature to iOS 8 and older devices.
The tweak obviously doesn’t enable your device to detect the pressure exerted but it takes advantage of an alternative method which involves calculating the change in the size of your finger when pressing the screen in order to simulate 3D Touch. When you tap the screen lightly, a smaller area of your finger touches the screen but as you exert more force, a larger portion of your finger comes in contact with the screen.
The tweak currently allows you to press firmly anywhere on the screen to perform an Activator action. Upon installing it, head to the Activator pane in Settings and assign an event with the ‘Force Touch’ gesture. You can then invoke the assigned action by pressing firmly anywhere on your device’s screen.
It’s important to note that Force Touch Activator currently allows users to assign a single Activator gesture only but it has the potential to be extended further in the future to support other actions as well such as pressing on app icons to invoke a quick shortcut.
If you’d like to get your hands on this tweak, Force Touch Activator is available as a free package on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Share your experience with us in the comments section below.
