Fourth generation Apple TV teardown reveals a chunky heatsink, A8 chip and 2GB RAM

The fourth generation Apple TV is scheduled to go on sale to the public from late October, but it has already made its way to the iFixit labs where it has been torn down and all its innards have been revealed.
The teardown reveals that the new Apple TV comes with an A8 chip and 2GB RAM, though this piece of information was already confirmed before. Tearing down the internal reveals that Apple has fitted the new Apple TV with a chunky heatsink that also transmits power from the power supply to the logic board.
The densely packed motherboard does not contain any mysterious new chip, though it does feature a custom memory controller from Apple, which is used by the company in its 2015 lineup of the Retina MacBook Pro.

The teardown of the new Siri remote reveals that its motherboard is also as densely packed as that of the Apple TV 4. It contains no less than 8 different ICs including a low power Cortex M3 MCU, a Bluetooth Radio from Qualcomm, low power digital signal processor from Texas Instrument, and more. The built-in 410mAh battery of the remote is surprisingly soldered directly with the Lightning port.

In the end, iFixit gives the fourth generation Apple TV a repairability score of 8 out of 10. It notes that the modular construction, the limited components and the lack of any proprietary screws make repair easy, though it does note that everything important is soldered to the logic board thereby any port related problems will require a complete replacement or board-level soldering.
