Fitbit’s iOS app climbed to the top of the free charts on Christmas Day

There are a lot of devices to choose from when it comes to gifting, but apparently a lot of people out there got a Fitbit for Christmas.
As revealed in stats released from App Annie, and originally revealed by Quartz, the Fitbit iOS app saw a lot of attention over the holiday break, being one of the most downloaded apps leading up to the Big Day on December 25. On that day, the iOS app shot up to the top of the Top Free charts, uprooting fan favorites like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and Snapchat from their spots and downgrading them to lower ranks for a short bit of time.

It’s probably not all that surprising that a wearable fitness tracker would be on the high spot on quite a few people’s wish lists, especially with New Year’s resolutions already getting primed, but it’s certainly good news for Fitbit who must’ve seen a strong boost to sales. On Christmas Eve the Fitbit iOS app was 20 spots down from first, so it certainly saw an uptick in downloads on Christmas Day.
The Top Free charts show that the Fitbit iOS app is now in second place, with Google’s YouTube app secure in its first place slot:

So the obvious question at this moment is: Did you get a Fitbit for the holidays, or did your wrist get adorned by an Apple Watch? (Or another wearable, for that matter.)
