Apple working on a fix for a kernel panic bug on OS X while running Spotify

In October of 2015, several different users of Spotify‘s official OS X app were having issues with the app randomly crashing.
The situation grew quite a bit, with many Spotify users pointing to random crashes of the app after upgrading to Spotify version 1.0.15.133, while running OS X 10.9.5. Since then, users have chimed into multiple threads within the Spotify community saying the same thing, plagued by the same random crashes.
Now, Spotify team member Johan Lindstrom has come forward and said that he’s been in contact with Apple, and has confirmed with the company that the problem is centered around an issue with the current, and more recent versions of OS X. He adds that there’s nothing that Spotify can do at the moment, and that users plagued with the issue will need to wait for Apple to release the fix, but there’s no timetable for when that will happen:
“I’ve been in contact with Apple and they have confirmed that this is a known bug in the current and recent versions of OS X. They are working on a fix, but I don’t know when they will roll that out. The bug that is causing the kernel panic is being triggered when running Spotify simply because the Spotify app is making network requests (to stream music etc.) and there are several other apps that also cause the same kernel panic to occur.”
There is a workaround for those affected by the issue, but it’s not likely one that many will adopt. According to Lindstrom, a quick fix is to disable the built-in firewall on your computer. Disabling that means disabling the control function that handles which apps send and receive network traffic, so it’s obviously not the best option, even if it appears to be the only one.
If you use Spotify for Mac, have you noticed this issue at all?
