There are action cameras out there, but the iPhone is usually not one of them. But sometimes you’ve got to break the trends.
That’s what Nicholas Vuignier has done, anyway. As first reported by TNW, Vuignier has used his iPhone to record him skiing down a mountain in Sweden, but with one key difference. Instead of just holding the phone, or attaching it to a helmet, he’s made something he calls the “Centriphone.” The result is something akin to what the Wachowski siblings did back-in-the-day with The Matrix and Bullet Time.
You’ll watch as Vuignier swings the phone around him in a 360-degree arc, with the camera facing him, and some slow-motion thrown in for good measure. Vuignier says the video was captured at 240fps, and the setup was created with a 3D printer. Vuignier has hopes to release not only the template for the 3D printer, so anyone can make the Centriphone if they want, but also release a behind-the-scenes look at how the video was made in the first place.
You can watch the video below, and it’s certainly worth checking out. Considering Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” ad campaign was just launched all over again, one can’t help but think this is something that should certainly be shown off.
