Google announces YouTube Gaming to take on Amazon’s Twitch, launches this summer along with an iOS app

YouTube Gaming
Recently, it was discovered that Apple had baked in a new feature into iOS 9 called ReplayKit, which allows iOS gamers to record app videos and gameplay.
This feature is something that many gamers have been taking advantage of on computers and video game consoles for quite some time, and have even turned to streaming games live through services like Twitch, in a massively growing market. Now, YouTube wants to get into the fun, too, as Google has just announced a brand new service that’s focused on the streaming market.
More than that, though, Google is obviously going right for Twitch with this new service called YouTube Gaming.
YouTube gaming is “built by gamers for gamers,” and it’s designed to give the best possible livestream experience possible, utilizing the YouTube brand as a big piece of leverage. With YouTube Gaming, users can subscribe to individual channels if they want, as well as games, too, so that when the game is being played and livestreamed, the user will get a notification so they can tune in. YouTube Gaming will also make recommendations for new channels and games, too, based on what the user has watched or subscribed to previously.
YouTube Gaming is packed with features, including 60fps streaming, DVR functionality, clip editing, support for sharing links to the feeds, and, perhaps best of all, a new way to broadcast live feeds so that the stream doesn’t have to be scheduled ahead of time. When the livestream has ended, YouTube Gaming will automatically convert the content into a YouTube video.
As mentioned above, YouTube gaming will launch this summer, with an iOS app available soon.
