VMware today announced the launch of its new virtualisation software for Macs: Fusion 8 and Fusion 8 Pro. These apps from the company will allow Mac users to run Windows 10 on their PC through virtualisation.
Besides supporting Windows 10 and providing always-on access to Cortana, Fusion 8 and 8 Pro also supports OS X El Capitan, the latest generation Retina iMacs from Apple and the 12-inch MacBook. VMware says that Fusion 8 brings about up to 65 percent faster graphics performance thanks to support for DirectX 10 and OpenGL 3.3 and an updated graphics engine.
Run familiar Windows applications side-by-side with your favorite Mac applications, and seamlessly share files and folders between Windows and Mac. Take advantage of the latest features in Windows 10 like Cortana, the Microsoft speech-enabled virtual assistant, or run the all new Edge web browser alongside Safari.
VMware is selling the Fusion 8 for $79.99, though existing Fusion 6 or 7 users can upgrade to it for $49.99. Fusion 8 Pro, on the other hand, costs $199.99. The latter is aimed towards developers and packs in additional features like a virtual network editor, IPv6 support, ability to create restricted VMs, and more.
As Ars Technica points out though, the first release of Fusion 8 and Fusion 8 Pro released to consumers today has a few bugs. This includes a bug with the Unity mode of the app where sometimes the Start screen of Windows 10 becomes inaccessible.
