Some Apple Watch complications are colored in watchOS 2’s Utility face whether you like it or not

Utility face on Apple Watch
Apple has added a splash of color to some of its Apple Watch faces in watchOS 2, and not all of them are welcome. With the Utility face in particular, a number of complications now have new colors, and you’re unable to change them or revert back to a monochrome look.
You may have noticed that the popular Modular face now has a new multicolored option, which adds color to the Activity complication and many others. If you don’t like this look, however, you can swap it for one of the colored options you’re already use to, and all elements adopt the same shade.
But that’s not the case with the Utility face.
In watchOS 2, the Activity complication is colored by default, and different complications are assigned their own colors. For instance, alarms, timers, clocks, and the sunrise and sunset complications are now orange. And if you don’t like these colors, well, it’s tough.
There’s is no monochrome option with the Utility face like before, so if you prefer a more subtle look, then you have to use another face. Fortunately, you can achieve a similar watch face design with the Simple and Color faces without too much effort.
It would be nice if Apple gave us greater customization overall, though. In comparison with the rival Android Wear platform, Apple Watch’s face options are extremely limited, and that’s a shame for a device that’s so focused on style.
Here’s to hoping that we get a watch face builder inside the Apple Watch app for iPhone in the future. It seems unlikely, but my fingers are firmly crossed!
