Besides the jump in camera resolution, 4K video recording and improved local tone mapping, Apple has also enabled the use of OIS on the iPhone 6s Plus while recording videos.
The smaller iPhone 6s, just like its predecessor, does not feature Optical Image Stabilisation, and therefore has to rely on Digital Image Stabilisation to smoothen out jerks and motion while recording video.
So, how big of a difference does OIS on the iPhone 6s Plus brings while recording video when compared to the iPhone 6s? Quite a lot, actually. Check out the video from Giga Tech below and see for yourself. Do note that the videos from both iPhones were shot at 4K resolution.
Thanks to OIS, the iPhone 6s Plus is able to record videos that are almost free of jerks and look like they have been shot using a steady cam or tripod.
While there are a few Android devices out there that also make use of OIS while recording videos, they only do so when recording at Full HD resolution and not at 4K. So, while Apple might have been late in making use of OIS while recording videos on the iPhone, its execution is the best of the lot.
If you are serious about photography and record a lot of videos, it is no brainer that you should go for the iPhone 6s Plus. Plus, once you factor in other advantages that the larger iPhone offers, including a bigger and higher resolution screen, better battery life, and some new UI features, it makes sense to go for it over the iPhone 6s provided you are fine with its size.
