On September 10, it was confirmed that the battery in the iPhone 6s is actually smaller than the iPhone 6’s battery. Turns out, it’s not just that device getting a smaller battery.
According to information gathered by Taiwanese site Apple Club [translated], the battery in the iPhone 6s Plus, which is set to launch on Friday, September 25, is measured in at 2750mAh. That’s smaller than the battery in the iPhone 6 Plus, which comes in at 2915mAh.
It’s not all that surprising that the iPhone 6s Plus has a smaller battery, too, considering both the larger and smaller variants of the new iPhones share the same design decisions. Indeed, it’s been suggested that Apple went with a smaller battery in the units due to making room for other parts, including a new Taptic Engine to give physical feedback when 3D Touch is utilized.
Apple says that optimizations within iOS 9 make it so that the battery life in the new iPhones won’t be heavily impacted, even if the physical batteries are smaller than their predecessors. Of course, when the phones finally find their way into owners’ hands in the real world, it will be interesting to see how those battery claims stand up.
