Elon Musk calls Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard’

Elon Musk
For many, Apple’s oft-rumored, “now a project” electric car really only has one competitor: Tesla.
In May of this year, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, said that Apple entering the electric car would be “great,” and apparently actually looked forward to the competition. Since then, though, Apple has been on a bit of a hiring spree for the Apple Car, and that includes former senior engineers at Tesla.
Now, in an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Musk has taken some jabs at the Cupertino-based company. It began with a simple comment, pointing out that Apple does indeed hire folks that have worked at Tesla in the past. It took a bit of a turn almost immediately, though, when Musk pointed out that these people Apple is hiring are the people that Tesla has fired:
“They have hired people we’ve fired. We always jokingly call Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard.’ If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple. I’m not kidding.”
That’s not all, though. Musk would actually go on to take a swipe at the Apple Watch, too:
“Did you ever take a look at the Apple Watch? No, seriously: It’s good that Apple is moving and investing in this direction. But cars are very complex compared to phones or smartwatches.”
Musk does admit that building an electric car is the next “logical step” for Apple at this point, but it would appear the friendly rivalry has been taken up a notch.
It will be interesting to see Musk’s comments when the Apple Car launches — if it ever does.
