Apple component supplier predicts it will take 3 years for 3D Touch to really take off

3D Touch on iPhone 6s
3D Touch is by far the most exciting thing about iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and it’s hard to deny the technology isn’t going to change the way we interact with touchscreen devices for good. But according to one of Apple’s manufacturing partners, it will take three years for 3D Touch to really take off.
Unlike Live Photos, another feature that made its debut with Apple’s latest iPhones, 3D Touch isn’t just a gimmick; it’s an incredibly useful feature that makes everyday tasks quicker and easier. What’s more, lots of third-party developers have embraced it, and 3D Touch support can be found in an ever-growing list of apps.
However, TPK, which supplies some of Apple’s touch components for iOS devices, doesn’t expect 3D Touch to grow in popularity all that much in 2016. “CEO Michael Chung adds that each new technology requires roughly 3 years to become part of the ecosystem, after which it can enter a high growth stage,” reports G for Games.
“As such, Michael Chung is of the opinion that the number of applications that will integrate Force Touch technology in 2016 will not be too large.”
There’s no doubt that 3D Touch is a game-changer, though, and the fact that lots of third-party developers are already embracing it is a good sign. There is also a lot of talk about Apple’s rivals — including Samsung — bringing pressure-sensitive displays to their next-generation smartphones.
Whether or not it will really take three years to properly take off remains to be seen, but I’m sure Apple will be delighted with the response 3D Touch has received so far.
