Most people have a tendency to talk about the music they are listening to, and sharing albums, tracks or artists has never been easier.
And that goes across services, from Apple Music to Spotify, and more often than not Facebook is the point of access between someone sharing a song and another person discovering it. So, in light of that, the social network wants to make discovering and sharing music even better, and to do that it has launched “Music Stories,” a special kind of post that will start to see the light of day in a user’s feed.
With a Music Story, a Facebook user will now see the song presented as a 30-second preview. That 30-second preview will also be available for an album, too. Facebook is currently working with Apple Music and Spotify, according to an official blog post from the social networking giant, and the preview will be streamed from either one of the services — based on where the content was originally shared. That song or album can then be saved to the service, or purchased when available.
Facebook has plans to support other music platforms moving forward, but no dates were provided:
“The previews from Apple Music and iTunes are available directly through Facebook. If you want more, click through to stream full tracks on Apple Music or add music to your library with a single click to purchase through the iTunes store. The previews from Spotify are also available directly through Facebook. If you want more, click through to stream full tracks on Spotify or add to your library without leaving Facebook. We will expand Music Story support for additional streaming music services soon.”
Facebook hopes that music will become a better experience on Facebook as a whole with this change, and it looks like Music Stories could help do that.
