According to the Rumor Mill, and its flat-out refusal to give up on the idea, Apple is currently planning to launch a car at some point in the future.
As it stands, many consider that car to be part of the “Project Titan,” which has cropped up from time to time over the course of several months. It’s believed that the project is now a “committed project,” and that Apple has a target ship date for its Apple Car in 2019. Of course, Apple hasn’t said anything official just yet, which simply leaves more room for speculation.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, another detail has surfaced that has once again suggested Apple is indeed scoping out the automotive industry. This time around it’s the firm known as “Sixty Eight Research,” which is believed to be a front that Apple is using to navigate the automotive industry without presenting itself to the world.
As noted in the report, Sixty Eight Research was on hand at the 17th Global Car Body Benchmarking Conference that took place in Germany recently. Sixty Eight joins the ranks of plenty of other automotive juggernauts, including Honda, GM, and many others. Interestingly enough, the original report indicates that Tesla Motors wasn’t on hand at the conference this year.
The conference was put together by the Automotive Circle International, and it’s designed to bring together suppliers with manufacturers, and covers assembly, painting and manufacturing. It’s an annual event, and whether or not this is the first conference that Sixty Eight Research has attended is unknown at this point.
At this stage it’s unknown whether or not Sixty Eight Research is indeed a front for Apple’s automotive intentions, but Sixty Eight’s name came up in March of this year as the place where Apple was developing its electric car.
Do you think Apple should launch a car?
