Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, spoke recently with the United Kingdom’s The Independent, and opined on the company’s latest devices: the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.
The interview is a nice look at Cook’s view on the iPad Pro, the company’s Pencil stylus, and where both devices fit within the industry as a whole. Specifically, Cook believes the iPad Pro will be a huge boon to productivity for owners, and not simply because of its big display or beefed up internals, but also because of the Apple Pencil. According to Cook, the Pencil isn’t just a standard stylus, which typically replaces the need to use a finger on a display, but rather compliments the user’s fingers.
“Well, we didn’t really do a stylus, we did a Pencil. The traditional stylus is fat, it has really bad latency so you’re sketching here and it’s filling the line in somewhere behind. You can’t sketch with something like that, you need something that mimics the look and feel of the pencil itself or you’re not going to replace it. We’re not trying to replace finger touch, we’re complementing it with the Pencil.”
Cook also went into the Smart Keyboard, pointing out that the accessory built specifically for the iPad Pro is better by default because it was built by Apple, and done so with the iPad Pro in mind right out of the gate. Moreover, Cook adds that he’s only bringing along the iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard on his trips, along with his iPhone (and one would assume an Apple Watch, too):
“Now all of a sudden you have a keyboard that has been perfectly designed for the iPad, it’s integrated and then you’ve got the software with split view and it’s inherently very productive. I’m travelling with the iPad Pro and other than the iPhone it’s the only product I’ve got.”
The interview is certainly worth a look, and you can find it through the source link below. As usual, Cook is excited about the latest device from Apple, and considering it launches at the end of this week (with orders beginning Wednesday, November 11), it won’t be long before the masses get a chance to try out the biggest iPad to date.
