Sonos debuts ‘Trueplay’ to help better tune speakers

Sonos Trueplay

For owners of Sonos-branded speakers, and those who use the Sonos Controller iOS app, fine-tuning those speakers is now a reality.
On Tuesday, November 10, Sonos officially announced a new “Trueplay” feature, which works within the aforementioned Sonos Controller app, and allows users to fine tune their Sonos speakers for the best possible sound, no matter where the speaker is positioned. It’s a quick setup process, thanks to the microphone present on the iPhone or iPad, and for anyone that wants to make sure that their speaker sounds the best it can, even in a room that might not offer the best surroundings, Trueplay can make that happen:
“Trueplay uses the microphone in your iPhone or iPad and a quick setup process to ensure your Sonos speakers always sound their best, whether you’ve placed one on the most perfect pedestal or hid one inside your kitchen cabinet above the coffee grinder. Now you can violate one of those audiophile rules and put your speakers where you actually want them: behind, above, under or inside and still get awesome sound.”
What’s better, Sonos plans on continuously updating its audio performance moving forward, so that the speaker can always sound its best — even if the owner has had it for three years. The company also made it possible to accurately gauge surrounding audio, like a dog barking or even the wind, when putting the final touches on the tuning procedure.
The Sonos Controller app is available through the link below for free. Once the app is installed (or updated), a quick 30-second tutorial will guide the user through Trueplay and how to get everything set up.
