The Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, two primary accessories for the new iPad Pro, are still hard to find, with many retailers simply out of stock.
Apple, for its part, is still taking orders online (while many retailers aren’t at all), even with the shipping dates still pushed back four to five weeks. Both accessories are important devices for the iPad Pro, but for those that have been able to get their hands on the larger tablet, finding them is a bit harder.
According to a report from MacRumors, and citing readers within the publication’s forums, Apple is trying to ease the pain a bit for those that can get lucky enough while shopping online. Based on individual reports, Apple has been accepting in-store pickup, or Personal Pickup, options for both the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil in some select retail stores. It completely depends on stock for each location, as usual, but the option is there if the store’s inventory has any devices available.
The Personal Pickup option is certainly nice for anyone that can manage to snag an order online, especially for someone that might not be able to make it into a physical retail store ahead of a stock delivery to the location.
It’s worth noting, though, that leading up to publication, and as the image above indicates, stock for both the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard are still apparently very, very low. Availability in a variety of states that we searched, including Washington state, California, New York, Texas, Ohio, Massachusetts, Oregon, Iowa, and Illinois all proved fruitless, with each Apple retail store showing that Personal Pickup wasn’t available.
However, if some potential buyers are getting lucky enough to find the Personal Pickup option available, it certainly might be worth keeping an eye on if you’re still in the market for a Pencil or Smart Keyboard. The Pencil retails for $99, while the Smart Keyboard will set you back $169.
