I loved the iPhone 5, but I don’t want another 4-inch iPhone

Word on the street, yet again, has it that Apple will be introducing a new 4-inch iPhone in 2016. But should they?
Remember small touchscreen phones? You probably do, especially if you’re someone who has only used iPhones over the recent years, or any years, for that matter. The iPhone 5s, with its four-inch display, is still available to buy right now, so it isn’t completely out of the consciousness of consumers out there in the wild just yet.
And rumor has it that Apple wants to tap into the vein that is small displays all over again, because going two years with the focus being on “big phones” was apparently just too long. So we’ve now got tempered (they’re tempered, right?) expectations that Apple could be looking to launch a new 4-inch iPhone, maybe as early as the beginning part of 2016.
The iPhone 5s wasn’t my favorite iPhone. The iPhone 5 was, and not because it had a larger screen than the iPhone 4s or any of the yearly models before that. The iPhone 5 was my favorite because I preferred its color scheme (black) versus the iPhone 5s’ (space gray). That’s still the case today. (I will admit that the Space Gray 12-inch MacBook is ridiculously nice looking, though.)
Here’s the thing, though: When I had the iPhone 5/5s, I was perfectly happy with the size. I had used big phones already, with Samsung jumping the gun ahead of everyone and introducing “phablets” with its Galaxy Note lineup, and then the other Android manufacturers eventually getting into the market, too.
I liked the 4-inch display, despite being able to admit that a bigger screen had obvious benefits — especially for consuming content. Back then, I didn’t think I wanted anything else. In fact, I knew I didn’t because I had used bigger phones and I didn’t like any of them.
It didn’t dawn on me until I finally used the iPhone 6 and its 4.7-inch display that it wasn’t the big screen I didn’t like, it was the other phones.
I was passionate about not wanting a bigger phone than my iPhone 5/5s back then, but now that I’ve been using the iPhone 6/6s, I don’t want anything smaller. (Or bigger.) So these rumors that a smaller iPhone is coming down the pipe just do nothing for me, despite the fact that I used to be in love with 4-inch smartphones. Thought they were the perfect size, in fact. Now, though? Now I think the 4.7-inch mark should be the smallest Apple goes for its iPhone lineup.
What do you think? The obvious benefit of the smaller iPhone is that it would be at least somewhat cheaper than the bigger iPhone 7 (because a launch in next year) and 7s, so there’s that. But would you want to go down in screen size, especially if you’ve been using one of Apple’s bigger iPhones?
