One of the tentpole new features for Apple Music is its human-based curation, which means that algorithms will no longer be tasked with finding the next song to listen to during a marathon.
One question that many were asking after Apple officially unveiled News, it’s new service that effectively replaced Newsstand, is whether or not Apple News would get the same curation or not. Now, according to a report from 9to5Mac and citing a new job listing for Apple News, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Apple’s job posting is for a “News Editor,” and states that the role will task editors with gathering “the best in breaking national, global, and local news.”
On top of that, these editors will be working firsthand with content publishers to “drive relationships with some of the world’s leading newsrooms, ensuring that important breaking news stories are surfaced quickly, and enterprise journalism is rewarded with high visibility.”
Apple has apparently moved ahead in a big way with human-curated content, not just for music, but also for news. It will be interesting to see how well that works, especially for populated content that gets pushed to the front of the app, or how breaking news gets handled in general.
Do you like this new focus on human curation for content?
