Apple Music launched with the debut of iTunes 12.2 and iOS 8.4 which contained the revamped iOS Music app. When you first launch the Music app, you will be given the opportunity to configure it to your musical preferences. While most of the options apply to the recommendation engine, these early choices also influence Apple Music Connect, which is the social network portion of the service. When you setup the “For You” section of Apple Music, you are prompted to select your favorite artists. These musicians will then be featured on your list of music recommendations as well as added to your Connect profile. When you open Connect, you can view these artists and add more as desired by viewing their profile page and tapping the “Follow” button. There’s even a feature that automatically follows an artist when you add their songs to your music library.
Changing Your Name and Nickname
Like any good social network, you can change your name and nickname to reflect your personal preferences. By default, Apple uses your Apple ID name and leaves the nickname section of your profile blank, but you can change those options when you start using Apple Music. Just select your profile in the upper left corner and then tap on your name at the top. Tap on Edit in the top right and use the keyboard to enter your name and nickname. Your nickname has to be unique so you may not have your first choice.
