Apple could launch cheaper iPhone in spring 2016, analyst claims

Apple didn’t launch a more affordable iPhone alongside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus as some rumors promised, but the company may not have dropped the plan altogether. One analyst claims we’ll see a cheaper iPhone in spring 2016.
Ananda Baruah at Brean Capital believes Apple is indeed working on a more affordable, “skinny” iPhone that will be the same size as the iPhone 6. The device will allow Apple to “tap into” emerging markets and appeal to price-sensitive consumers, Baruah adds.
Baruah says the device will launch in spring of next year, but there’s currently no word on what kind of specifications it will offer.
There has been lots of talk of an “iPhone 6c” in recent months, and though some rumors suggested the device would be a smaller version of the iPhone 6 made out of metal, others claimed it would be around the same size and made out of plastic.
Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri previously told Business Insider that Apple was planning a 4-inch device with a “modern metal design,” but the device disappeared from its supply chain completely in July, suggesting Apple dropped the idea.
We recommend taking this rumor with a pinch of salt. A more affordable iPhone could make a lot of sense for Apple — and be a big success. But the company has previously stated it doesn’t want to launch “cheap” devices just to chase market share, though the support comments from Phil Schiller was later retracted by Reuters.
