Apple Pay is already present at a lot of different establishments across the United States, and expanding across the globe, but small businesses have been left waiting.
That’s changing thanks to a new device just launched by the mobile payments company Square, as initially reported by USA Today. The newly-public company has just unveiled a brand new NFC reader which is seeing the light of day in over 100 small businesses across the United States beginning today. With the new reader, small entities that were previously unable to accept support for the mobile payments option from Apple will be able to do so.
The reader from Square works exactly as it does in other large businesses. Meaning Apple Pay users will simply be able to set their iPhone or Apple Watch near the reader to complete a transaction.
The reader, which is available to purchase from Square for $49, is available now. While Apple Pay support is one of the biggest draws for the new device, it’s also able to accept payments from chip cards, which are also growing in popularity in the United States.
It’s been just over a year since Square officially announced that it would be launching Apple Pay support at some point in 2015, but for small businesses wanting to support the mobile payment option, the wait was surely worth it.
