In the middle of July of this year, Apple Pay officially launched in the United Kingdom. Now, heading into the holiday shopping season, the mobile payment option is getting a big boost of awareness.
Earlier today, it was announced that MasterCard had launched a limited-time window of opportunity for travelers in London to use the public transit system for free, as long as they use Apple Pay to go in and out, up to £27.90 in daily fare. The free travel is available today, Monday, November 23, and for the next three Mondays as well.
Now, MasterCard’s competitor, Visa, has just launched its own ad campaign called “Ready,” which will see coverage over the next two months. The first ad, which has two variants, was directed by Saatchi & Saatchi and showcases how easy it is to use Apple Pay in real world situations. All with a Visa card, of course. The ad shows using a Visa card with Apple Pay via public transit and in a cafe.
As of the time of this writing, Apple Pay is supported by upwards of 250,000 locations across the United Kingdom, from England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Six days ago, the mobile payment option added support from Tesco Bank and TSB in the region as well.
