The Surface Pro lineup from Microsoft has been around for a stretch now, but recently Apple officially launched its own direct competitor in the iPad Pro.
Both devices are professional machines in their own right, and both tablets offer a stylus accessory (with Microsoft’s being included in the box with the tablet) that opens up the world of possibilities for a wide range of creative types. With the similarities clearly visible, comparison videos were bound to arrive.
One such video, published recently by The Verge, does a good job in showing the strengths, and weaknesses, of both tablets. The iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil compared to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Surface Pen, with the end results indicating that Apple’s Pencil is “one of the best,” and that the Surface Pen, while great, can still feel “less natural” while in use.
One strength of the Surface Pen? A hardware eraser on the top-side of the stylus, something that, almost ironically, the Apple Pencil is not equipped with. (That doesn’t mean it still can’t be fun on its own.)
The Pencil is praised for its “amazing” palm rejection and given plenty of high marks for being “really responsive.” On the flip-side, the comparison found the same strengths in the Surface Pen, too. Of course, it’s worth noting that the experience and quality will vary from both accessories depending on the app that they are being used with.
You can watch the full comparison video below. What do you think of Apple’s first Pencil compared to Microsoft’s fourth Pen?
