This week saw the arrival of the yearly International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada kick off. And, as usual, there were a lot of products shown off. Some of which had something to do with Apple.
This isn’t a comprehensive list by any means (there are a lot of the same things, too, from different companies), but just a glimpse at some of the more interesting, or at least cool, gadgets that might be worth checking out for your Apple product. There are hubs for your USB-C port on the 12-inch MacBook, camera accessory systems for your iPhone, and even more ways to keep your mobile devices charged while you’re on the go.
Starting with…
- Olloclip’s Studio Mobile Photography Accessories
Olloclip made waves in 2015 with its successful Kickstarter, and now it has made sure that it’s name gets talked about again at this year’s CES. This time around, Olloclip is back with an entire studio of accessories, all centered around a single case that’s equipped with a rail mount on its back that can see mounts, clips, a kickstand, and other accessories attached to it.
The Olloclip Studio works with the iPhone 6/6s and there’s a Studio for the 6 Plus and 6s Plus, too. The Studio costs $89.95, and it includes an Accessory Kit that includes the following gear:
- (1) Finger Grip a versatile and ingenious two-finger grip. Great for increased stability while taking photos, filming video or broadcasting with apps like Snapchat or Periscope. It enables the photographer to quickly change from portrait to landscape orientation without even thinking about it.
- (2) 1/4-20 Clips to attach a tripod, grip or handles. Includes mounts for both landscape and portrait orientation.
- (2) Cold-Shoe Adapters to attach lightweight accessories, like a microphone or light, in a snap. The shoe was designed to offset the center of gravity of the accessory, so it’s directly in line with the iPhone’s centerline, thus creating a more balanced experience when attaching multiple accessories.
- (1) Kickstand a new stand attachment for watching a movie or reading your favorite book or blog.
- Zagg Mobile Charging Station
Keeping devices juiced up is important, and while we’re still waiting for manufacturers to just give us batteries that last long enough without compromise or worry, external charging solutions are the solution until then. For owners of the iPhone 6s and an Apple Watch, ZAGG has an option: The Mobile Charging Station.
The station itself is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, which is designed to charge the iPhone while it’s plugged into the station, as well as the Apple Watch. The wearable is charged while it’s sitting atop the station, held there by a pop-up base. The station will also neatly hold any excess cable while you’re charging the devices, thanks to some extra space in its design. It includes a Lightning cable, but for Watch owners, you’ll need your own cable to charge it.
ZAGG priced the mobile charging station at $79.99, and the company says it will be available to buy later this month.
- Hyper 5-in-1 USB-C Hub
The 12-inch MacBook is a slim device, and, as such, there are only two ports on the device in total: A USB-C port, and the 3.5mm headphone jack. For folks that might want more, though, a brand new 5-in-1 hub from Hyper that connects to the USB-C port might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Hyper’s is a big deal because it also offers passthrough charging for the MacBook, something that’s quite an important feature for an accessory like this. And, just to prove a point that the new hub is designed with the MacBook in mind, there are three colors to choose from: Space Gray, Silver, and Gold.
There’s the standard USB-C port on the hub for charging, as well as a pair of USB 3.0 ports, a micro SDXC card slot, and a full-size SDXC slot.
Hyper has made the 5-in-1 USB-C hub available to buy right now, priced at $49.99.
There are a lot of camera accessory systems out there, a lot of hubs, even more charging stations, and a plethora of other categories covered. Other than these devices, is there something from CES 2016 that has caught your eye? Let us know in the comments below.
