Apple takes Chinese tastes into consideration when designing new products, Tim Cook has revealed. China is becoming an increasingly important market for the Cupertino company, and it has already made big decisions to suit Chinese Apple fans.
“The company considers details including color palettes to suit local tastes,” reports Bloomberg. The introduction of a gold iPhone last year was in part due to the popularity of the color among Chinese consumers, who are now buying Apple gadgets like never before.
China is now Apple’s second-largest market behind the U.S., and home to its largest retail store to date. In the March quarter, China accounted for 29 percent of Apple’s total revenue, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.Cook revealed these details on a tour of China last month, during which he stopped by at Apple’s new retail store in Hangzhou, and visited local schools, where he “talked about the importance of education and said he was gratified to see the students had an insatiable appetite for learning.”
Apple is now working on a technology learning program for Chinese children, which won’t just teach them how to use apps for making music or editing video, but also to help those with hearing impairment communicate.
Cook also said that the Apple Watch is off to a promising start, and that it has already attracted more developers than the iPhone and iPad did when they first launched. More than 3,500 apps are currently being worked on.
