Twitter is busy. While hot on the heels of new information regarding Twitter’s focus on curated content with Project Lightning coming to light, the company is now testing two new ways to discover more about products and places.
On its official blog on Friday, June 19, Twitter officially took the wraps off “Pages” and “Collections,” both of which are designed to help users ascertain even more information about certain places, or products, all through the brands and individuals that talk about those things on the social media site.
Generally, while a discussion is happening regarding a place or thing, a user has to leave Twitter to learn even more about whatever it is they’re interested in. Twitter wants to change that by launching two new ways to discover more, while all the while staying within Twitter. These new features will even let Twitter users buy products, too.The first of the new tests is product and places Pages:
“The first experience we’re testing is a new way to surface and organize relevant Tweets about products and places on dedicated pages. These pages will feature images and video about the product alongside information such as a description, price, and an option to buy, book, or visit the website for more information.“
And, the second new way to find more information on products and places is Collections:
“In addition to pages, we’re also beginning to test new ways for people and brands to create and share Twitter collections of products and places. You’ll be able to browse rich collections from influencers you care about and get more information about the products or places you find interesting.“
Collections has quite a few brands already tapped in to aid the fledgling feature, including PEOPLE & Joyus, the Disney Store, Threadless, and HBO’s Game of Thrones, to name only a small few.
The new features are rolling out to iOS and Android, as well as Twitter.com, and users will need to have the latest version of the official Twitter app installed on their device. A link to the free app is available below.
Recently, Twitter also confirmed that it would be removing the 140-character limit for its Direct Messages, making messaging on the platform between Twitter users even better.
