Swatch’s trademark for ‘One more thing’ is a nod to Columbo, not Steve Jobs

When Steve Jobs took the stage to announce new Apple products, those in attendance, and those who eventually got to watch from afar, usually waited for a familiar line towards the end of the event, signaling just “one more thing” to get unveiled.
Steve Jobs wasn’t the only person to ever speak those individual words in that particular order, of course, and Swatch, the Swiss watchmaker, is pointing to someone else as the inspiration for their most recent trademark, “One more thing.” We first reported on the trademark, and pointed out Swatch’s indirect connection to Apple, which also includes a past trademark for “Tick different,” which is an obvious nod to Apple’s now historic “Think different” marketing campaign.
According to a report published by Techradar, and citing a statement from a Swatch spokesperson, the company’s trademark for “One more thing” isn’t actually related to Steve Jobs or Apple at all, and is actually a reference to the legendary inspector, Columbo, and his line, “Just one more thing.” The spokesperson added that “obviously our design team plans to launch a collection inspired by the ‘Film Noir’.”
Right now, Swatch doesn’t have a watch lineup inspired by film noir, but it’s not impossible that they’ve got a series in the works.
What do you think? It’s certainly an interesting turn of events.
