Apple has introduced a new setup process for the always-on ‘Hey Siri’ functionality being introduced on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in the iOS 9 Golden Master build released by it earlier this week.
It is already possible to bring up Siri on existing iPhones when they are being charged, but on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, it will be possible to bring up the digital voice assistant even when the device is sleeping. Due to this, it becomes quite important for Siri to better differentiate between your voice and that of others and to only respond to your commands.
The setup process, therefore, will provide Siri with more data to better recognise your voice. The setup process itself is very simple and has five steps. You will be required to read the different phrases being shown on the screen and will be able to proceed to the next step only when Siri has recognised all the words pronounced by you.
However, certain files found in iOS 9.1 suggest that Siri will be to detect the voice of its owner only when this new release of iOS makes its way to consumers in November. In iOS 9, the setup process is meant only to improve the detection of the ‘Hey Siri’ keyword, irrespective of who says it.
iOS 9 is slated to be released to the public on September 16, while the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be making their way to retail stores on September 25. The handsets are scheduled to go up for pre-order on September 12. On the other hand, iOS 9.1 will be making its debut on the iPad Pro sometime in November.
