One of the takeaways from Apple’s iPad Pro announcement is that, without the company actually saying it, the giant 12.9-inch tablet has enough power to replace your laptop.
Add another feature to that growing list as it has been discovered that Apple has implemented a new storage controller that improves the overall read and write speeds. Apple, for its part, says that this specific improvement helps boost the iPad Pro’s storage performance to that of desktop PCs, based on language presented on the iPad Pro’s dedicated website.
On the Technology portion of the iPad Pro’s site, Apple isn’t shy about comparing the new tablet to desktop PCs or laptops, also noting that the company’s A9X processor within the device is 1.5 time faster than a similar desktop processor. While Apple isn’t going out of its way to discuss the RAM available in the iPad Pro, it’s been confirmed by Adobe recently that the device holds 4GB. That matches the base model of the MacBook Air, but is still lacking when compared to higher-end MacBooks, or other PCs.
There’s no information on Apple’s site regarding the new storage controller and whether or not it’s a custom-built piece of technology, unfortunately. Apple does say that it was specifically chosen to match the A9X processor, though, for what it’s worth.
Based on the specifications of the iPad Pro, do you plan on picking one up?
