Apple is working on the “next generation” design for its retail stores that it plans to roll out starting this fall. The company has already applied for a $1.5 million permit to renovate the interior and exterior at 2031 West St. in the Memphis area.
According to the documents submitted by Apple to the Germantown Design Review Commission, the new design will feature large glass fronts, which should not really come as a surprise since this design language is still found across all major retail stores of Apple. Additionally, the “next generation” stores from the company will feature natural oak tables, changeable window display that will sometime feature living plants, and a matte granite reinforced panel on the exterior.
“Our project is the next generation of retail store that we’re rolling out, and that’s the design concept that we have – and we’re really excited because this is going to be one of the first, if it’s approved, that we build,” Millitello told the commission. “So we’re really excited to expand in Germantown and we’re excited to see the result of all the work that we’ve put in to develop this design.”
It is likely that Apple will also reorganise and redesign how it displays its product inside the stores, though the documents submitted by the company had no details about it.
Millitello, who represented Apple, told the Germantown Design Review Commission that the company plans on rolling out the new retail design in some of its stores outside the US this fall, and that the Memphis store will be among the first stores in the US to be a part of its next generation design rollout.
