Waze, the navigation app owned by Google, just received a major update that delivers a fancy new design, improved navigation, easier reporting, and more. The update also promises to significantly reduce battery consumption.
“We redesigned this version to better serve your driving needs and experience,” Waze explains in a post on its official blog. “Now, it takes less taps to access many of Waze’s key features.”
With the new user interface, simply tapping the Waze button in the bottom corner provides you with instant access to all of your frequent and favorite locations. There’s also a dedicated contacts button that lets you get directions to your friends, and gives you the ability to notify them when you’ll be arriving.
When you start navigating, tapping the button in the center of the menu bar lets you find alternative routes, add a stop, or inform a contact that you’re on the way. Waze’s report menu has also been redesigned to make it a whole lot easier to use.
A big feature that’s been introduced in this release is the ability to set reminders that look at your calendar, then tell you when you should leave based on the location of your appointment and the traffic data for your route.
Finally, Waze promises that this release “significantly reduces battery consumption so you can keep Waze fired up without losing your charge.”
