Microsoft unveils the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL

Lumia 950
In early September, Apple took the stage and unveiled the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, showcasing brand new flagships with a whole slate of new features.
In early October, Microsoft took the stage and unveiled the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the company’s brand new flagships, which offer plenty of new features as well. The company took quite a bit of time to talk about the hardware of the new devices, focusing on the improvements that have been made both internally and externally. That includes both devices being liquid cooled, and having two antennas to boost connected performance.
As far as the hardware goes, the handsets are identical in the majority of ways, with only a few key differences. The Lumia 950 features a 5.2-inch display, while the Lumia 950 XL boasts a 5.7-inch screen. Inside, the Lumia 950 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The Lumia 950 XL, on the other hand, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz.
Both devices have a QHD display with a resolution of 2560×1440, and both devices have a 20MP camera on the back, which features a triple LED natural flash and ZEISS optics, along with “5th generation optical image stabilization.”
The Lumia 950 has a battery that’s measured in at 3000mAh, while the Lumia 950 XL’s battery is 3340mAh. Both devices feature USB Type-C and Fast Charging. According to Microsoft, with only 30 minutes of charging, both Lumias will get up to 50% capacity, making it easy to get just enough battery when it’s needed.
Both devices will run Windows 10 Mobile out of the box, Microsoft’s attempt at bridging the gap between just about all of its devices. Specifically, Windows 10 Mobile and the new Lumias feature Continuum, which will allow the Lumia 950 and 950 XL to work as a full-fledged computer while connected to a Microsoft Display Dock and a monitor plugged into that as well. Apps, like Microsoft’s own Office apps, will scale-up to match the display that you’re working on. On top of that, neither experience is blocked off. Meaning, you can work on a PowerPoint presentation that’s powered from your phone on the monitor, but you can still use your phone as you normally would.
As far as a release date goes, Microsoft says both devices will go on sale sometime in November, but no exact dates were provided. Moreover, Microsoft didn’t announce any carriers for the launch, either — not even AT&T. Pricing was confirmed, though: $549 for the Lumia 950, and $649 for the Lumia 950 XL.
So, what do you think of Microsoft’s new Lumia devices?
