Skype is a huge piece of Microsoft‘s puzzle when it comes to its product lineup, so it is no surprise to see the service popping up in other apps.
That includes the latest update for Microsoft’s Outlook app for iOS. The latest update, which was originally released on January 12, brings Outlook for iOS up to version 2.1.3. In the new update, users will be able to quickly jump into a scheduled Skype call without having to jump around from one app to another, simply by tapping on an option that’s present when creating or even editing a specific event. Users will see a “Skype Meeting” switch in the create/edit event screen, and selecting that will automatically put together a Skype call when the time comes.
On top of that, Outlook for iOS now includes the ability to see a three-day view. It’s a nice change from simply only seeing a week’s worth of information, or just one day, and for anyone that wants a smaller snippet of their week’s scheduled tasks.
Here’s the changelog from Microsoft:

- Outlook for iOS — Free
“Innovation is happening in the calendar this week with our latest Skype integration. Make any meeting a Skype call simply by flicking a switch, then access the call when you need to with just a tap. Now when you say “I’m joining the call now”, you’ll actually mean it. To give it a try, simply turn on the “Skype Meeting” switch when creating or editing an event. We’ve also added a 3-day view in the calendar to make your schedule for the days ahead clearer than ever. To access it, tap on the view icon in the top-right corner of your calendar. Questions or comments? Send us a note through the in-app Support page. We’re listening.”
Outlook for iOS is a free download, and a link to the app is available below. Recently, Microsoft updated the app to support 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
At the same time, Microsoft has also updated Office 2016 for Mac. It’s a relatively small update, adding just a few noteworthy additions. That includes Outlook for Mac being able to support full screen mode in OS X Yosemite or later. Word can now save PDF files to flash drives, while PowerPoint and Excel have new selection panes to make the whole experience a bit easier. OneNote users can now add shapes to their notes.
Do you use Microsoft’s products for iOS and/or Mac? What do you think of the updates coming to the apps?
