The arrival of Apple Pay in the United Kingdom has been a longtime coming now, but Apple has confirmed it’ll arrive in the area sometime in July, so the wait is almost over.
An unconfirmed report from earlier in the week pinpointed a July 14 launch date, and then a few days later a few savvy Watch owners managed to get Apple Pay functioning on their devices in the region with a quick workaround. However, while the arrival of Pay in the U.K. has been anticipated for quite some time, members of the Barclays bank were disappointed to learn that it was the only major bank not supporting Apple’s mobile payments solution.
Apple’s delayed negotiations with Barclays has caused the bank to delay its own support, according to earlier reports, and the question of whether or not the bank would be a launch partner has still been left unanswered. A new report from MacRumors may put some Barclays members frustrations to rest, though.According to the report, an unnamed executive within Barclays is preparing for “imminent” support of Apple Pay within the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, that’s all the information the report has. If an imminent launch is indeed being considered by Barclays, then apparently the negotiations with Apple have come to an end — or will be very soon.
Of course, the £20 limit on some transactions and in some locations, which will be raised to £30 in September, might still be a point of contention for some people.
Are you looking forward to getting to use Apple Pay?
