Some Apple Watch Sport owners have taken to Reddit and Apple Support Communities to report that the Apple logo and text on the back of their device has begun to disappear. Photos show the letters peeling off on some devices, exposing the metal underneath.
Most if not all of the complaints come from Apple Watch Sport owners with space gray devices, which suggests the way in which this model is anodized is causing the logo and lettering to become unstuck. But it’s not totally clear what starts the peeling process.
Those affected by the problem said they were asked about things like local climate conditions and activity levels, and whether the device was immersed in water when they spoke with Apple support. They have also been promised free replacements so that Apple can examine their devices to get to the root of the problem.
If you’ve experienced this problem with your Apple Watch, then, be sure to contact Apple to report the problem. It’s clearly a manufacturing defect — unless you purposely tried to remove the lettering and logo — so you should be eligible for a replacement at no extra cost.
Let us know down in the comments, too; we’d love to know how widespread this problem is.
