For Verizon Wireless subscribers that have managed to hang onto their unlimited data plans, a bit of a change is incoming as far as your bill is concerned.
Verizon says that less than 1 percent of its subscriber base is holding onto that aforementioned plan, for what its worth. For those that are, according to a report published by The Verge, the Big Red carrier will be hiking the price of your grandfathered plan by $20 — up to $49.99.
Specifically, that means the $50 is going to be added to whatever your monthly payment is. As the original report notes, if a subscriber is ponied up to a Nationwide Talk & Text 450 plan, which runs for $59.99, that means the $49.99 is added to that, making the total monthly bill now $109.98. And for any customer that’s paying more than that already, then the bill will only get higher.
This is only meant for the customers that are currently out-of-contract. On top of that, Verizon is letting these same customers pay for new devices with its monthly payment plans, which is a big change in and of itself, considering previously Verizon would only let these customers buy new phones outright to keep their grandfathered plan.
This change rolls out beginning in November.
For those that want to sign up to a new contract, and lose that unlimited data, Verizon now offers a more simplified take on rate plans, what it calls Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large. At the lowest, the Small plan offers only 3GB per month, while the X-Large option offers 12GB of data per month.
Does this new change affect you?
