This afternoon, members of congress officially introduced the Equality Act of 2015. Since that announcement, Apple has announced its support.
On a broad scale, the Equality Act would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964, with the aim to add not only sexual orientation, but also gender identity as well. Those would be added to the act that already includes outlawing discrimination against color, race, national origin or religion.
Apple, for its part, has released a statement that is reminiscent of remarks it has made in the past on this topic:
“At Apple we believe in equal treatment for everyone, regardless of where they come from, what they look like, how they worship or who they love. We fully support the expansion of legal protections as a matter of basic human dignity.“
This act would ensure full federal equality for all LGBT Americans, including those that live within the 31 states that do not offer their own non-distimination laws.
