Reading stories on a mobile device has always been something that’s been possible, but Google wants to make it a bit more immersive with a new app available for the iPhone.
Google has recently launched “Spotlight Stories,” which the company says will let users “Immerse yourself in a world of storytelling made just for mobile.” Google goes as far as to say with Spotlight Stories, users have their own personal mobile movie theater in their hands.
Using a combination of features, including 3D and 2D animation, 360-degree spherical cinema-quality video, sound sphere audio, and sensor fusion techniques, these stories are being brought to the new app from critically-acclaimed filmmakers and engineers. All to a free app.
One of the big releases for Spotlight Stories is a film entitled Help, which is directed by Justin Lin (Furious 6, Fast 5). It has to be downloaded to watch, like any of the other films within the app, and it measures in at just over 500MB. The app notes that Helpwill be free for a short period of time, but no indication how much it will cost after that free period ends.
Google’s Spotlight Stories is available for the iPhone right now, and it measures in at 16.5MB. It’s available for free through the link below.
