iPhone sales see explosive growth in India in Q2, 2015

iPhone 6 Launch India
The sales of iPhone have exploded in India as Apple posted a 92% growth in sales in the country in Q2, 2015.
The company shipped Apple sold 92% more iPhones in India, which is higher than the 45% average growth rate it saw in other regions.
The company’s global phone sales rose 35% to 47.5 million units. “(In) India we grew at 93% and this is on top of the Greater China numbers that grew 87% during the quarter against a market of 5%,” Apple’s chief executive officer and director  Tim Cook said during an earnings call Wednesday morning. “So, we did exceptionally well I think in any way that you look at it,” he said.
This growth rate is also higher than that of China (87%), though it does not make much sense to compare the growth rate in both these countries due to the sheer difference in the units of iPhone shipped. Despite such a huge growth rate, Apple shipped only 0.5 million units of the iPhone in India compared to the estimated 13.2 million units it shipped in China during the same time frame.
Apple has in the past been very strict about the pricing of the iPhone in India and has not allowed retailers and e-commerce websites to offer heavy discounts on the retail price of the device. However, in recent times, the company itself has made a push for marketing the device further in the country and allowing retailers to sell the device at any price they like.
Recently, the company expanded its alternative pricing tier option to India and other developing countries, thereby allowing developers to sell their apps for as low as 16 cents in these regions.
