Apple stops selling Nest thermostat through its online and retail stores

nest-press
Apple today confirmed to Mashable that it has stopped selling Google’s Nest thermostat in its retail and online stores across the world.
The smart thermostat from Google had disappeared from Apple’s stores earlier this month.
This move from Apple should not really come as a surprise though, since the company launched its own HomeKit-compatible smart devices, including the EcoBee 3 thermostat, less than a month ago. Even searching for the Nest thermostat now displays the EcoBee 3 in search results in the company’s online store.
Nest was cofounded by two ex-Apple engineers, Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers in 2011. The company was purchased by Google for $3.2 billion in January 2014.
Apple has in the past removed competing products from its stores. It had stopped selling wearables from Fitbit through its stores last year since the products competed against certain features of the Apple Watch. It had even stopped selling wearables from Nike and Jawbone earlier this yearjust before the Apple Watch was scheduled to launch, but ended up selling them again after a couple of months.
Apple has stopped selling many other accessories through its stores this year as it aims to revamp and streamline the lineup of accessories it sells. The company wants the accessories sold through its stores to have a particular packaging standard that matches the aesthetics of its own products closely.
