Recently, a report surfaced that indicated that Apple was working with some third-party manufacturers to change the way their products are showcased in physical Apple Stores by way of Apple-designed boxes.
Now, Apple is making another change, but this time within its Online Store, but still with a focus on third-party accessories. As noted by MacRumors, the Cupertino-based company has launched a new page on its Online Store entitled “Apple Tested Cases.” As the name suggests, it’s a page that outlines the testing procedures for the third-party cases that Apple sells within its store, both online and in the physical shops across the world.
The new page showcases cases for the iPhone and iPad, and notes the testing procedures that these cases must go through before they can be sold through Apple’s retail arm. These are the cases that, ultimately, get approved for Apple’s Made for iPhone/iPad (MFi) program. The page looks to be a means to reassure buyers that the cases that have this certification have been sent through a rigorous testing procedure, making sure that the purchase is a “perfect match for your iOS device.”Breaking it down, Apple points out that the case has to fit the iPhone or iPad perfectly, and that the buttons and ports must be accessible and usable. Of course, blocking the cameras is unacceptable, and the cases are not allowed to interfere with features like FaceTime in any way, or hinder the audio or phone calls. Touch ID has to work whether the case is on or off. And, Apple also tests to make sure that the cases do not interfere with any of the connectivity options offered by the iOS-based devices, including NFC, cellular and Wi-Fi.
Do you use a case on your iPhone or iPad?
