The Ecobee3 smart thermostat, the first thermostat compatible with Apple’s HomeKit platform, is now available to purchase from Apple Stores across the U.S. The device is priced at $249, and it gives Apple fans an excellent alternative to the Nest smart thermostat.
Just like the Nest, the Ecobee3 has the ability to measure the temperature in your home and establish whether anyone’s actually inside it, then adjust heating and cooling accordingly. So if no one’s home, it can turn the heat down and save you money on your energy bills.
The Ecobee3 can also be controlled remotely using an iOS device or an Apple Watch, and if you have iOS 8.1 or above, you can even tell Siri to adjust temperatures for you. Ecobee3 can also be paired with multiple temperature sensors so you can monitor the conditions in different rooms.
Ecobee3 has actually been on sale for a while — it first hit the Apple Online Store back in November — but the device has now been refreshed to add HomeKit compatibility, making it the first smart thermostat to support Apple’s platform.
Prices start at $249, and for that you get the Ecobee3 itself, plus an individual temperature sensor. You can buy additional sensors in packs of two for $79, and they’re available now from Apple Stores throughout North America.
