Apple joins Pentagon program to develop new sensors and wearable technology for the military

Apple Australia
Apple has enlisted with a brand new Pentagon program, along with 162 other companies, universities, and other entities to bring new sensors to the military.
According to a report published by Reuters, Apple has joined up with companies like Boeing to develop advanced sensors for the military, with some having a focus on sensors that could not only be worn by soldiers on the field, but also on heavy duty war machines, including aircraft and ships, to test their structural integrity:
The new technology aims to use high-end printing technologies to create stretchable electronics that could be embedded with sensors and worn by soldiers, a defense official said, and could ultimately be used on ships or warplanes for real-time monitoring of their structural integrity.”
Looks like we’re still a ways away from military-grade Apple Watch units, anyway.
The group of entities is called the FlexTech Alliance, and it not only consists of Apple and Boeing, but also Harvard University, Advantest Akron Polymer Systems and many, many more. FlexTech will be conducting its research out of a brand new research lab based out of San Jose, California.
