On August 24, a report came to light that suggested Apple was making changes to its “One to One” tutoring program. Namely, that the service was coming to an end.
The report cites an internal memo that was sent out to Apple Stores at some point during the week, outlining that the One to One program will be coming to an end on Monday, September 28. This particular program was actually launched in 2007, and it cost $99 to take advantage of the offer. With it, Apple product owners could get one-on-one instruction on how to use their devices, their features, and more. Of course, Apple has been pushing public, free workshops from within its Apple Retail stores for quite some time now, so this change was probably inevitable.
Indeed, Apple, in the memo, states that fewer customers have been signing up for the $99 program, and that’s just one reason why Apple is putting it down:
“On September 28th, we will be ending One to One sales and renewals. Since 2007, there One to One program has given the opportunity to teach members how to get the most out of their products and acquire new skills. As our products and programs have evolved, fewer customers are taking advantage of One to One. We want to offer rich learning experiences to all members of our community, and elevate Creatives as leaders of these experiences.“
Moreover, Apple will be putting a bigger focus on its revamped Workshops, which launched not too long ago and will be effectively replacing the current One to One program:
“Open Training and Thematic Workshops are great options. Thematic Workshops offer dynamic learning where customers learn from the instructor and other participants. Open Training encourages a collaborative learning environment for One to One members to work on their goals. We’ll be providing guidance to increase the number of Thematic Workshops that your store will offer to customers.“
It’s worth noting that current subscriptions to the One to One program will continue, even if they extend beyond that aforementioned September 28 ending date. New sign-ups and renewals won’t be offered, though.
Did you sign up for the One to One program, or do you prefer the free workshops?
