There is a lot to be excited about when a new iPhone is on the horizon, even if rumors, reports, leaks, and anything else in between aim to ruin the surprise before Apple has a chance to get on stage and announce it.
Recently, we put together a nice roundup of all the rumors and reports surrounding the iPhone 6s (and the iPhone 6s Plus), which does a nice job of outlining the most common rumors and expectations for the upcoming flagship handset. OF course, there are certain aspects of the new phone to truly anticipate, and certain elements and features that should be expected. That includes, but is certainly not limited to: Improved cameras, beefier processors, and a bit more life out of the batteries.
We might see things like more RAM this time around, perhaps even an increase two 2GB, but there might not be an increase in built-in storage this time around (or maybe there will be). There is a report circulating that suggests Apple might introduce a new color option this time around, in the form of Rose Gold, and based on the frequency of those rumors, it’s probably a semi-safe bet at this point.
Brand new entries into the iPhone lineup are probably likely this year, too. A recent report suggested that while the iPhone 6s might indeed feature the Force Touch technology that is already present in the Apple Watch and the trackpad in some MacBook models,it’ll actually be renamed for the phone lineup. There might even be a taptic engine within the new iPhones, which would mean haptic feedback for on-screen presses.
And then there are the outliers. Right now, there are some smartphones on the market that take advantage of the USB Type-C port, the same port that’s installed on the 12-inch MacBook. It’s probably not likely that Apple will adopt this technology for this particular device, but it doesn’t seem impossible that one day, maybe, they will. There has been speculation that Apple will switch to an OLED panel for its iPhone lineup, or that the handset could gain some wireless charging support. Oh, and let’s not forget rumors that suggest the iPhone could see a brand new 4-inch model, too, with the iPhone 6c.
As is par for the course getting so close to the actual announcement of a new iPhone, there’s plenty of back-and-forth of what people want to see, and what people are realistically expecting to see. The cameras, boosts in processor/performance, a bit more battery life, and so on and so forth seem like the safest bets for the “s” variant, but maybe Apple will have some surprises for us this year.
My question to all of you, though, is what you want to see, and what you’re expecting to see, in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Do you expect bold things from Apple this year, or will this update be a bit “safer?” Let me know what you think.
