Apple is launching new products on Wednesday, September 9, and just ahead of that it’s decided to go ahead and put some devices on the obsolete list.
According to documentation gathered by 9to5Mac, Apple will be designating the original Apple TV, the 24-inch Apple Cinema Display, the 30-inch early 2007, the 2nd- and 3rd-generation iPod touch, the 3rd- and 5th-generation iPod nano, and, finally, the iPod Classic. That means these devices will be designated as obsolete in markets across the globe, except where they’ll fall into the “vintage” category. With the obsolete branding, that means these products will no longer eligible for service or other hardware support, either from Apple itself or the company’s third-party service providers.
It’s not at all surprising that the original Apple TV would be getting this designation, just age aside. But, considering that Apple is also expected to unveil a brand new set-top box, it makes even more sense.
